Spring 2021 JMSW Phi Alpha Inductees

The Joint Master of Social Work Program inducted nine new members into Phi Alpha National Honor Society for Social Work. These new inductees represent academic excellence and the highest level of achievement in social work education.

The inductees are:

Each inductee received a certificate, pin, and honor cord. The Faculty of the JMSW program is proud of the accomplishments of these members!

Dr. Michelle Vance has been appointed to the Mental Health Research and Practice Division with the Urban Education Collaborative at UNC-Charlotte.

Dr. Sharon Parker will be speaking on a National Panel entitled, “PrEP Awareness and Uptake Among African American Women”

Dr. Sharon Parker will be speaking on a national panel entitled, “PrEP Awareness and Uptake Among African American Women” sponsored by HHS (PACE) and HRSA. The discussion will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 1:00 pm est.

Objectives of the panel discussion include:
 
      • Identify barriers to PrEP uptake in African American women
      • Discuss innovative outreach approaches for reaching younger and older African American women
      • Empowering women on HIV prevention options and how to overcome barriers.

DR. YARNECCIA DYSON IS AN INVITED SPEAKER FOR THE INAUGURAL INSTITUTE FOR RESTORATIVE JUSTICE AND PRACTICES VIRTUAL CONFERENCE

Dr. Yarneccia Dyson is an invited speaker for The Inaugural Institute for Restorative Justice and Practices Virtual Conference hosted by Bowie State University.

Her session will take place during the morning breakout sessions scheduled from 10:15 am to 11:15 am EST this Friday, April 9, 2021 and is titled Let’s Talk About it: Engaging Conversations on Sexual Health and Intimate Partner Violence Among Youth, Adolescents and Young Adults”.
