Congratulations to Dr. Theresa Palmer who successfully defended her dissertation today in the Joint Doctorate in Social Work Program at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro!

Theresa’s dissertation is titled, “Stressors, Strengths, and Social Justice: A Post-Intentional Phenomenological Inquiry into the Race-Related Experiences of Black Master of Social Work Students at Predominantly White Institutions.”

A special thank you to her committee members: Dr. Danielle Swick (Chair, UNCG), Dr. Yarneccia Dyson (Member, NC State), Dr. Buffie Longmire-Avital (Member, Elon), Dr. Grace Gowdy (Member, NCAT), and Dr. Jacqueline Roebuck-Sakho (Member, NCAT).

JMSW Students Confirmed as Student Senators in UNCG GSA Student Association

Susannah Burley and Sebastian Prandoni, current students of the Joint Master’s Social Work (JMSW) Program of the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NCAT) and University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG), were nominated and confirmed to serve as Senators (2022-2023) in the Graduate Student Association (GSA).

Susannah is a specialist, second year JMSW student also serving as President of the JMSW Student Organization. She is completing her field placement at the Congregational Social Work Education Initiative (CSWEI) and has an expected graduation of May 2023.

Sebastian is a first year JMSW student who also [receive an honorable mention for the 2023 Life Paths Promising Scholar award. He is completing his field placement at the UNCG Counseling Center and has an expected graduation of May 2024.

The GSA General Assembly is scheduled to meet the first Thursday of each month from 4:00-5:00 p.m. JMSW students are encouraged to channel any concerns and suggestions through your new Senators.
